Described as an affordable small family car that brings the benefits of a sedan, SUV, and MPV, the CX20 went on sale Wednesday with prices ranging between 49,900 and 70,900 yuan.
Six editions are available, all powered by a 1.3-liter developing 63kW/6000rpm and 110Nm/3000-4000rpm. This JL474QL engine is a slightly modified version of the one found on 1.3 Benni and CM8, and mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto transmission.
Slotted between Benni supermini (1.0L, 1.3L) and Alsvin hatchback (1.5L), the CX20 have a body size similar to that of current Crosspolo from Shanghai-VW, with a 2450mm wheelbase and 3900mm body-length. The exterior styling, which we find unappealing, was reportedly created by Changan’s R&D center in Japan, and seems to subordinate aesthetics to practicality.
For its low price tags, the mini crossover is well-equipped. Dual front airbags, ABS/EBD, remote key, power exterior mirrors, windows and doors are standard on all trim levels. Sports and 3G editions get such niceties as power sunroof, steering wheel multi controls, and backup radar.
