SAIC Group’s sales report for 2012 has been released toda. The manufacturer sold a total of 4.49 million vehicles over the year, 12 percent more than the figure reported in 2011. SAIC’s sales for the month of December totaled 350,000 units, equivalent to year-on-year growth of seven percent.

Shanghai Volkswagen’s sales fell in December, while sales of Shanghai General Motors, SAIC Motors, SAIC-GM-Wuling and Nanjing-based Naveco’s sales all increased. The five companies December sales totaled 74,870 units, 111,023 units, 25,107 units, 126,730 units and 9,692 units, respectively. Shanghai VW’s sales decreased 28.65 percent from December 2011 to December 2012, while monthly year-on-year growth rates for the following four companies were reported to be 37.89 percent, 48.67 percent, 10.61 percent and 22.66 percent, respectively. Combined sales for all of SAIC’s subsidiaries and joint ventures in December totaled 350,380 units.

Looking at cumulative sales results for 2012, all of SAIC’s major companies reported positive year-on-year growth. Yearly sales of SAIC’s two key JVs, Shanghai VW and Shanghai GM, increased from 1.16 million units and 1.23 million units in 2011 to 1.28 million units and 1.39 million units in 2012. SAIC Motor’s sales grew 23.46 percent from 16,888 units in 2011 to 25,107 units in 2012, while those of SAIC-GM-Wuling increased from 114,570 units to 126,730 units, representing year-on-year growth of 12.07 percent.
