(Shanghai April 23, 2012) – Henan-based bus manufacturer Zhengzhou Yutong Group sold a total of 10,168 vehicles in the first quarter of the year, the Zhengzhou Daily reported today. The sales figure represents year-on-year growth of 25.87 percent for Yutong, which was the only domestic bus manufacturer to sell over 10,000 vehicles in the three month time period.
Export sales were crucial to Yutong’s strong performance. Yutong exports totaled 1,531 units last quarter, bringing in 1.01 billion yuan ($160.96m) for the manufacturer. Exports accounted for 15.06 percent of Yutong’s quarterly sales volume.
Yutong has also benefited from new national regulations regarding school buses in China. The manufacturer sold a total of 2,231 school buses (pictured) from January to March, constituting 21.94 percent of its total sales.
