Although MG is currently owned by SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, a Chinese state-owned automobile and manufacturing company based in Shanghai, the brand is still associated with classic British roadsters. In fact, the Extender clearly shows European roots.

What a pity! No one remembers MG as a pickup brand. But the little roadsters were a very hot MG brand for many years, and yet SAIC threw away the opportunity to bring them back to indulge the nostalgia of many U.S. baby boomers..,and others, for the fun that those soft top two seaters offered. Back in the 2000s, plans were underway by MG China to bring the iconic nameplate to a production site in Oklahoma, under veteran car guy, Duke Hale, but those plans broke down, and the original “roadsters” were never re-introduced…a lost chance to make a fortune.… Read more »

But MG is past time, and EV is future.

Like Saab, MG roadster is just a niche brand, won’t make big sale volumes.
